My review of Animal Farm.

My english class has recently read Animal Farm so I am writing a review about how I found it.
Animal Farm was written by George Orwell in 1945. George Orwell was a very political person who didn't like what he saw happening in the communist countries. This story is based on the Russian revolution in 1917 but uses animals on a farm to portray it. It starts with all the animals on the farm being equal but shows the difference in the animals and how greedy some are and how horrid they can be to each other. The reason why George Orwell used animals is so he could avoid censorship in a politicly unstable time as he was writing it during the 2nd world war.
Each of the main names or characters used in Animal Farm represents somebody or some place in real life. Most of the main characters are pigs. Old major represents Karl Marx, Napoleon represents Josef Stalin, Snowball who is forced to flee Animal Farm, represents Trotsky who had to flee Russia. Squealer represents the "Pravda" the one who tries to keep everyone in order. Mr. Pilkington is another farm and stands for England and her allies while Frederick represents Germany.
This book is really for adults and young adults who have to have some understanding of the world we live in. This book can be hard work in some places but you must persevere as there are some really tense and dramatic chapters in the book. If I was giving it a star rating I would give this book 6 out of 10 stars. It has given me a better understanding of the world we live in and the people around me as well as teaching me about the Russian revolution in a way that I found interesting.
